The Year In Review at Border Pest Control
This past year has seen many changes at Border Pest Control. We have a few new faces in both the office and in the field and many other changes in our operations.
Our new Customer Service Representative is Raynese De Los Reyes. She's only been with us a few weeks so please be nice to her if you should happen to call and she answers the phone. Our new man in the field is TJ Saucedo. He's taken over all the Lordsburg routes as well as some of the Silver City and Deming routes.
In the field, we are in the process of upgrading our service technician's trucks for added security. Most of the technician's trucks now sport shells to enclose the service area of their trucks. We also have some technicians who've gone on to further their pest control capabilities by adding new certifications to their accomplishments.
This year, Jim Dye became an Associated Certified Entomologist. Bob Miranda and Travis Sigman earned their Termite Certifications. Zach Sigman acquired his Certified Applicator's license. The Certified Applicator's license is currently the highest level of pest control certification available. All of these certifications required strenuous training and extensive testing.
In the office, in addition to our new Customer Service Rep, we now have an extensive Do-It-Yourself Center. You can stop by and browse our selections of Rodent, Fly and Miscellaneous Control products or check out our web page for a complete list of what we have available. We can even deliver the products to your door free of delivery charges. Our technicians each have a catalog with them so you can just ask to see it when they come to do your service.
The Year In Review in SW New Mexico Pest Control
This spring, summer and fall in SW New Mexico brought a surge in pest control dealing with bees, rodents, ants and many other pests.
We were kept busy throughout these seasons with an unprecedented number of calls as the entire area was attacked by bees in huge swarms that didn't seem to want to die out or go away. Pets and people were attacked and some people were literally driven from their homes due to these swarms, which decided to setup housekeeping inside homes and attics.
The previous, dry winter drew rodents and ants toward houses in record numbers looking for water and shade. Flies have been an ongoing bane this year as well. These persistent pests have been the main motivating factor for us to setup our Do-It-Yourself Center. These three pests in particular, and many others as well, can be particularly hard to control without day-to-day intervention; therefore many customers have purchased supplies as an add-on to our regular professional services.
Our weed services have also been on the rise this year due to the heavy rains we experienced late this summer. Some people knew what the rains could bring and called us early on in the season so we were able to lay down some pre-emergence to keep the weeds from growing in the first place. Anyone who waited until the weeds were fully grown, had to cut them down before we could treat them. Hindsight is definitely 20-20 when it comes to weed control!
Next Year at Border Pest Control
We're hoping to expand our operations this coming year to include a satellite office in Silver City. We expect to hire at least one more technician, who would service all of the Silver City areas and areas north along route 180 as well as take over some of our Lordsburg routes.
With the expansion in the Las Cruces areas, we expect to continue to grow in that area as well and hope to also include a satellite office there in the coming years. In the meantime, we send at least two technicians a day to service those areas.
Our termite services are increasing due to this same expansion both in the Las Cruces areas and our own Deming area. As we stated earlier, we now have four certified termite technicians to keep up with this demand and we expect this increase to continue through the next year.

We can project our pest control needs as the weather patterns emerge during the year. As we've seen this year, drought brings rodents and ants closer to our homes for shade and moisture. Rain, on the other hand, brings the weeds and all the pests that thrive on those weeds. Being pro-active and calling us early on when an infestation first emerges, is always the best solution. We definitely have better results when we can keep a total infestation from occurring.
