This tiny insect was responsible for the death of 1/4 of the entire population of Europe in the 14th century by transmitting Bubonic Plague (The Black Death). Fleas also transmit other diseases like Murine Typhus. Plague is New Mexico's most prevalent vector-borne disease. Fortunately no human plague cases have been reported in our service area, to my knowledge. But there's no need to take chances, eliminating fleas before they heavily infest your home is often quicker and less costly.
Fleas are one of natures most fascinating insects. Did you know, that a flea when ready to emerge from its pupal case as an adult flea, can remain in that case, ready to emerge and pounce on its first victim, for up to a year and a half, some experts believe. To help prevent that little trick, we use an INSECT GROWTH REGULATOR which keeps the flea from reaching that pupal stage in the first place. Fleas can be very difficult to control with conventional treatments. Experience is the real key here.
Indoors: If fleas are found indoors, we most likely will need to treat all carpeted areas and
upholstered furniture. Pick up toys and other objects off the carpets. Thoroughly vacuum or if possible steam clean the carpets and upholstered furniture in the house. This will remove many of the adult fleas and eggs. Discard disposable vacuum bags after vacuuming, removing them from the home. Wash all pet and people bed clothing, throw rugs and furniture covers and do not replace until after treatment. Have your pets treated during the application if possible. Since the pets must be out of the house during treatment of the home it is a good time to also treat the pets. This can be a homeowner treatment or make an appointment with a pet
groomer after your home treatment has been scheduled. Shampooing carpets is recommended, but when not
practical, vacuuming is a MUST prior to treatment.
Daily vacuuming is recommended, removing the bag immediately after each time. Dispose of the bag in an outside dumpster. If insecticide cannot be added to the canister on bagless
vacuums, they should be opened outside away from the house and emptied into a bag, sealed and placed in a dumpster.
Follow-up treatments are required to take advantage of the warranty - Total elimination in 60 days. Follow ups should be scheduled in 3 weeks if possible, but not more than 4 weeks.
Outdoors: When fleas are known to be outdoors, it can be difficult to tell where the infestation is the worst, but following the animals
that are infected is a good place to start. Generally a yard power spray is recommended in order to cover all areas. Fleas will lay eggs on animals that fall off any place the animal has been, so anything short of a
power spray increases the likelihood of the infestation continuing. This treatment should be included automatically with the inside, but is a separate charge. An telephone estimate may not take everything into consideration, but the technician can confirm the price before getting started.
Total elimination of fleas from the yard may be temporary if neighbors have pets
or if stray animal continue to be present. If skunks, rabbits, coyotes,
mice, rats, squirrels and other animals are present, controls must be
implemented to reduce or remove these pests. We can provide baiting and
trapping where needed.
Do the on pet treatments work? In a word, they help. Nothing is 100%, except our guarantee, if the program is followed as prescribed above.
