Border Pest Control was started as a family business in 1973 by Jimmy and Dorothy Dye. A Federal Certification program was implemented in 1975 and Mr. Dye was certified through a California University. The business grew largely due to referrals from our customers and was soon incorporated. We have continued to use the safest application techniques and pesticides, provide a guarantee and maintain affordable rates. We are members of the National and New Mexico Pest Management Associations which inform us of new and improved techniques, regulatory actions and other valuable technical information.

In our on going effort to address customer concerns we began making odorless treatments in 1985. In 1990 we began offering "reduced risk" perimeter treatments, and began an in-house training program to supplement the New Mexico Pest Management Association's annual training seminars. Jimmy retired from the field in 1991 at age 65 but continued to work part time with Dorothy in the office. In 1994, Jim D. Dye, son of Jimmy and Dorothy, computerized our service and accounting departments in order to provide better record keeping. He continued to work part time in the field and part time as administrator until January 1997 when he became the company CEO.

In January 2000 we began offering Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to residential customers. This service provides reduced risk by utilizing non-pesticide control measures when and where applicable. This service is standard for all food handling establishments and other sensitive accounts such as health care facilities and nursing homes. IPM is a decision making process that anticipates and prevents pest activity and infestation by combining several strategies to achieve long-term solutions. Components of an IPM program may include education, proper waste management, structural repair, maintenance, biological and mechanical control techniques, and pesticide application.

Sadly, our founder and confidant, Jimmy E. Dye, passed away at age 74 from a sudden heart attack in August 2000. Dad we will always love you, especially for teaching us about integrity, honesty and compassion.

The business continued to grow and moved from its original location on Columbus Rd. to its current location on U.S. Highway 70/80 East, a.k.a. E. Pine St. on the last day of December 2001 and it has proven to be a perfect compliment to our operations. With this move we acquired a phone system, great security and lots of room to grow.

In 2004 Border Pest Control earned the QualityPro designation.  QualityPro is the mark of excellence in pest management.  This program is increasing the professionalism of the industry through self-regulation; stimulating consumer demand through increased confidence and a higher public perception of industry professionalism; and providing marketing opportunities to participating companies by recognizing commitment to excellence and higher performance standards. In January 2005 we dedicated a full-time route to Termite control.  After 30 years of part time termite work this was necessary to keep up with demands.  Due both to urbanization and regulation, there is and will continue to be bigger demands for expertise in Termite and other wood destroying insect control.

“Never stop learning” became our official motto in 2006.  Mr. Dye heavily promotes education both in-house and at every opportunity in the region, on the internet and elsewhere.   Mr. Dye became an Associated Certified Entomologist in May 2006, something he had long aspired to achieve.  Earlier in the year, Bob Miranda and Travis Sigman earned their Termite certifications and Zach Sigman acquired his Certified Applicators license.  In New Mexico, Certified Applicator is currently the highest category available for pest management.
